New Exhibition at Benguela Cove:

Where Art Meets Ocean Conservation

Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate, a WWF Conservation Champion, has launched a new art exhibition, 'Seascapes' at the at Hermanus wine farm in Western Cape. It is a celebration of the ocean and its preservation, and the power of art in conveying critical environmental messages. The event opened during the FynArts Festival on 8th June and runs until September 2023.

Visitors can visit the free exhibition at any time during opening hours on the estate. Benguela Cove is also offering a two-night accommodation package at the oceanside estate that provides a unique experience of art combined with the estate’s award-winning restaurant, vineyards and winemaking facilities.

The Walker Bay wine farm recently won the Best Cellar Door Experience of the Year Award, as the country’s top wine tourism destination, and ten Medals of Excellence for its wines in the new Tim Atkin ‘South Africa Special Report’.

Charlene Uys, the gallery curator, says, "This exhibition is a fusion of art, science and marine conservation. It's a platform for South African artists to showcase their creativity in portraying the beauty of our oceans, and a call to action for everyone to play their part in preserving our marine life."

New Art at The Gallery

The exhibition features the work of several talented artists, including: Ilze Coetzee, Marion Bartko-McCabe, Carlien Gunter, Patricia Wood, Tharien Smith, Tuesday Houston, Shannon Phillips, Coral Spencer, Dave Coburn, Jonel Scholtz, and Gavin Larkin. Each artist brings their unique style and perspective to the exhibition, contributing to a diverse and engaging exploration of the theme of water and its importance in our world.

In the relaxed atmosphere of the gallery and outside areas overlooking the lagoon and distant mountains, guests can view the paintings while enjoying award-winning estate wines.

Charlene Uys says, “The gallery offers a great setting for this event - a beautiful, airy space with expansive walls and natural light, where the artworks’ colours glow. The space really brings out the character of each painting, including the largest artworks, which can be viewed from a distance and then experienced up close, for a different perspective and interpretation.”

The 220-hectare wine farm estate, set in the UNESCO-designated Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, offers panoramic views of the Whale Coast, Palmiet mountains and vineyards, as well as a spectacular array of bird and marine life.

The estate features a variety of activities for local and international guests of all ages, including gourmet dining, lagoon wine-tasting cruises, vineyard tours, and private wine blending, as well as children's entertainment and an active events calendar.
